Jamie Oliver Gets His Own Video Game

If you can’t get enough of Jamie Oliver, the British chef is coming out with his own hand-held video game some time in October. He’s just the latest celebrity chef to get involved in the gaming world. Don't forget there's a Hell's Kitchen video game featuring Gordon Ramsay in the works as well.

Cooking with Jamie Oliver is being described as a serious cooking training game that teaches real-life recipes by the Naked Chef.

The game will include a series of real-time virtual challenges that involve real-life chopping, stirring, and plating; recipe cook-offs with other players; and a timed competition against the clock. All of this will take place in three-dimensional kitchen settings with measures of quality and taste.

The game will feature 100 original Jamie Oliver recipes such as Italian Tomato and Bread Salad, Pea and Goat Cheese Risotto and Mrs. Oliver’s Chocolate Pudding - all accompanied by real-life photographs by David Loftus who has worked on most of Jamie’s cookbooks, space for 100 of your own recipes, a shopping list mode, and competitive cooking game mode.

Cooking with Jamie Oliver apparently doesn't really tell you when you're done, or even when you've failed, although Jamie Oliver’s picture pops up with words of encouragement from time to time. You just cook, like in real life. From the early reviews I’ve read, it sounds like you can actually learn to cook by playing this game.

If you’re still confused about how it works, check out these screen captures for a better idea.

Would you be game (pardon the pun) for Cooking with Jamie Oliver video game? What do you make of celebrity chefs getting involved in the gaming world? I'm imagining a Cooking in The Hamptons with the Barefoot Contessa video game in the future.

I prefer real cooking as opposed to virtual cooking via video game...  But, something like this might be fun for young cooks - or novice cooks.

It's cool... but I would rather be cooking in an actual kitchen...

I cannot imagine many people having the time or inclination to make virtual meals. Children will probably find the game tedious and become bored with it quickly. Jamie Oliver doesn't seem terribly discriminate about what his name goes on, so long as it puts a few more quid in his pocket.

I would pass on any game from any food celeb. I think Jamie's reading the Gene Simmons "Sell anything with your name while you can" school of thought.

I hope it works better than his Flavour Shaker, because that is the most useless thing I think I own.

i can't imagine that the subset of the population that are intersted in video games would overlap much with the subset who love barefoot contessa.

I would try it. It could be fun. I did pretty well on my daughter's Cake Mania game!

I noticed the comment about Jamie's Flavour Shaker and I had to share a story!  I was given one as a wedding present and used it probably 3 times and then it sat in my drawer for a few months.  I pulled in out one day and thought I should give it a try again.  So, I started to make a salad dressing with it.  The thing broke apart on the second shake!  It cut my hand and I got oil and vinegar all over my kitchen!  Needless to say, I was NOT impressed and have to agree with Rob that it is indeed completely useless.

This might be the thing for my step daughter who has found her "inner chef" as of late... could answer questions for her that I can't provide, as she doesn't live here, but with her boyfriend.

(So glad I didn't buy that shaker.......)

Sure I would try it. I love anything related to cooking. So on my sleepless nights I can see myself checking into it. I received the shaker as a present 7 months ago and I have not use it yet. Thanks for reminding me to use it to all those who mentionned something about it
