Introducing the $1,000 Brownie

First, Chef Daniel Boulud of DB Bistro Moderne in New York created the first $100 burger. That whopper was made with sirloin steak, layered with truffles, stuffed with braised short ribs, foie gras and more black truffles.

Then the race was on to create the world’s most expensive cocktail - the Ritz Side Car. Bar Hemingway in the Paris Ritz created the $500 cocktail made with an extremly rare 1830 cognac. British model Kate Moss was apparently seen drinking one.

So is it any surprise that a restaurant in Atlantic City has come up with a $1,000 brownie? Yup, you heard that right (watch the video report).

Brûlee’s "Brownie Extradordinaire with Saint Louis" is a chocolate brownie made with Italian hazelnuts, dusted with edible gold powder and served with a very rare port. After each bite, the dessert captain squirts a mist of the vintage port on your tongue with a $750 atomizer, which incidentally is yours to keep.

I won’t even try to guess what they’ll come up with next.

They also have a $1000 dollar sundae. It has the gold foil as well, and you eat it with gold spoons that you get to keep.

I'm sorry but this just seems outrageous. Anybody who would spend $1000 on a brownie has too much money on their hands.

This may actually be a bargain in disguise... if the rare Port has a $250 value, and the French crystal atomizer, which you get to keep, is worth $750, then the brownie (and the atomizer guy who sprays port onto your tongue after each bite) are actually free!

It's disturbing to see that our society of excess is becoming even more so with the creation of this frivilous, outlandish way for over-paid supermodels and celebrities to spend their easily-earned money. Do these people know that many in this world can't afford food, a home or health care??

I don't care what kind of wine it is or how its applied to the tongue, no food is really worth $1000. If I had $1000, i think i could find something much better and worth while to do with it.

If this is the best that we can do with our money, we have brought a whole new meaning to the word absurd.

The opulence of society knows no limits....to refrain from excess would be the birth of a new, social self-consciousness. As long as there are people with a surplus in the pocketbook and a deficit in the cortex.....we can expect to see the million dollar lollipop. Ka-ching.....lick!
