McDonald's Coffee Better than Starbucks?

Have you heard? McDonald’s coffee rated better than Starbucks coffee in a recently published taste test.

According to Consumer Reports magazine, McDonald’s coffee was "decent and moderately strong," while the coffee from Starbucks tasted “burnt and bitter."

Being the consummate skeptic, I decided to taste test them myself. It just so happens there is a Starbucks and a McDonald’s next to each other near my work.

I bought a small black coffee from McDonald’s ($1.14) and a short mild black coffee from Starbucks ($1.54) and held my own study with the help of three colleagues.

The conclusion? In a blind taste test, we all preferred the Starbucks coffee although we did like the smell of McDonald’s coffee. McDonald’s coffee was good on the first sip but became, what can only be scientifically described as “yicky” on subsequent sips.

Starbucks coffee was bitter but its subtle notes came through. But I have to admit my shock at how decent the McDonald’s coffee was. It really wasn’t bad.

It's funny this has been all over the net for the last few days but my boyfriend has been saying this for years. I don't drink coffee myself but he is a bit of a coffee snob and has always said that he secretly loves Mcdonalds coffee and could take or leave Starbucks. Go figure.

I don't like McDonalds coffee at all, i find it way to strong. Starbucks is flavorful and not at all bitter tasting i would pay the extra for Starbucks for a better tasting coffee.

I've been telling anyone who will listen that McDonald's has decent coffee these days. Starbucks coffee actually gives me headaches.

You know I've never tried McDonald's coffee, but when I was taking the subway to work, there was a McDonald's at the station I went to... there were always people just going in there for coffee, but I just assumed they went because it was there not because they were thrilled about the coffee... but maybe they actually were!

My  mom has been saying for years that she loves McDonald's coffee, that it is the best.  I'm not a coffee person, but I do know that I prefer any kind to Starbucks; it is just too bitter and strong.

I was blown away when I took a chance on McDonald's coffee for the first time a few months ago. It was actually good!! It certainly can't hold a candle to sipping freshly brewed coffee in Ethiopia - the birth place of coffee - as I did a few years ago, but I would definitely have McD's again. Way better than Tim Horton's (which I really can't stand) and I'd venture to say better than Starbuck's or Second Cup, too (although I do prefer the latter two if I make it myself at home). Who knew McDonald's could do coffee so well?

McDonald's coffee smells amazing and for someone who is not a huge coffee fan, I can honestly say that I would take a McCoffee over anything from Starbucks anyday... and keep money in my pocket!

I'm not a fan of either one, but am glad to see that I'm not alone in finding Starbucks coffee highly overrated. It's instant heartburn for me, far too bitter and strong. Yet I will definitely shell out the bucks for their Chai latte!
