Anna Olson’s latest cookbook is shiny and purdy, kind of like Anna herself. I’ve mentioned this before but the girl is even prettier in person. In line with her mantra “eat fresh, eat local,” Fresh with Anna Olson: Seasonally Inspired Recipes to Share with Family and Friends is full of seasonal recipes from her Food Network Canada show of the same name.
The book is conveniently divided into seasons with equal attention given to all the chapters even winter.
From chorizo cheese potato wrap (winter) to miso grilled eggplants and scallops (fall) to fiddlehead salad with pickled red onions and maple toasted pecans (spring) to corn blueberry toss (summer), she lists ingredients that are in season at the beginning of each chapter then offers up recipes using those seasonal ingredients.
Since I can’t always remember what’s in season when, I found this very helpful.
There’s a nice range of recipes as well. Whether it’s fancy shamancy osso bucco with gremolata or an easy lemon hummus with pita, you’re bound to find inspiration from the over 100 recipes offered.
And yes, the book is peppered with gorgeous pictures (food porn alert!), fun personal anecdotes and plenty of tips in Anna’s warm, gal-next-door manner. This is a lovely book kind of like Anna herself.
